Michael Flaum, M.D.

Michael Flaum, M.D.Michael Flaum, MD, is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Director of the Division of Public and Community Psychiatry at the University of Iowa. He also directs the Iowa Consortium for Mental Health (ICMH), which serves as a liaison between the university and the public mental health system in Iowa. He did his undergraduate, medical school and residency training in New York (Columbia University, SUNY Stony Brook and New York University respectively). He came to Iowa for a post-doctoral fellowship in schizophrenia research in the late 80's, and has remained since that time. Dr. Flaum is the author or co-author of more than 90 peer-reviewed publications, and 16 book chapters. He led the field trials for psychotic disorders in DSM-IV and chaired the Psychotic Disorders section in the DSM-IV-TR. He has been a governor-appointee to Iowa's Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Commission and Iowa's Medical Assistance Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics Committee.
